Chat and Calling Terms

2026-10-11.2 · 2026-10-11

Chat, voluntary status messages and voice/video calling support ordinary communication between adults with mutually accepted connections. They are not emergency dispatch, carrier telephony or a replacement for local emergency services. No telephone number dialing, guaranteed connection, unattended call receipt or rescue escalation is offered.

Messages use authenticated access, encryption in transit and server encryption at rest; this is not a claim of end-to-end encryption. Calls use WebRTC encrypted media, and authenticated relays when needed. PBS does not record calls. Microphone/camera permission is requested only after your explicit start or accept action. Peers and relay services see connection metadata. Another participant may independently record; local recording-consent law remains your responsibility.

You choose contacts and check-in recipients. Removing a connection revokes private communication access and closes active signaling. Pending or failed messages may retry after reconnection using the same request identity to avoid duplicates. Stored or fetched status is not proof a person read a message. Calls stop when ended, revoked or expired; keep the application open to receive incoming web calls.

Do not harass, impersonate, send unlawful content or use the service to request emergency intervention. Account and block/remove controls help manage access; report abuse with relevant details to PBS. The Terms’ lawful warranty and liability provisions apply.
